Overquill is a role-playing game that is similar to typical old school RPGs but includes some modern elements and themes. The plot focuses around a novelist who aspires to write the next great novel of his time. But things go awry when he is transported to a realm where all artists are subjected to tests of skill and creativity. Only artists than can create a masterpiece can return home and all others are trapped within the realm forever.
The game features a few unique mechanics. As per a typical role-playing game there is a turn-based battle system where the novelist must fight the creations of the realm. However, instead of using things typically found in an RPG, such as magic, swords and mystical items, the novelist uses his words, combining them together to form powerful attacks. Whatever the novelist writes becomes real and modifies the environment around him. The novelist learns new words in the realm and can create combinations of words to either save or destroy.
The story will be developed a bit more as we move onward, and I don't want to spoil anything here. But the story will involve the journey of this novelist through the realm as he discovers the true meaning of art, creativity and friendship.
